EPC (Energy Performance Certificate)

Why take these measures?

Global warming has accelerated at a speed which has alarmed scientists and Governments alike. The biggest culprit is CO² omissions. We as stewards of our planet have to act to make our own changes and educate other in making their changes too. Here are just a few interesting, if not disturbing facts:

Average temperatures have climbed 0.8ºc around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades. This is according to NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Study. Average temperatures in Alaska, Western Canada and Eastern Russia, have risen at twice the global average according to the multi-national Arctic Climate Impact Assessment Report compiled between the year 2000-2004.

Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing and the region may have its first completely ice free summer by 2040 or earlier. Polar bears and indigenous cultures are already suffering from the sea ice loss. Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting, for example Montana’s Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, whereas in 1910 there were 150.

An upsurge in the amount of extreme weather events such as fires, earthquakes and tropical storms are also attributed in part to climate change.

These facts are not press scaremongering; they are among a few factual events that will continue to worsen and affect us all unless we take action and begin to appreciate our environment.

An EPC contains an assessment of the relative energy performance of the building and suggested measures to reduce energy use.

The purpose of an E.P.C is to record how energy efficient a property is as a building. These are produced using standard methods and assumptions about energy usage. When compiled a displayed horizontal graph is shown similar to the labels found with most domestic appliances.
